How Bali Awakened My Voice: A Journey of Voice Activation

As a child, I loved singing. I sang freely, without worrying about how I sounded or what anyone thought of my voice.

Then, in college, someone told me I wasn’t good at singing. What had once been something I simply enjoyed became something I questioned. I began listening to my voice through other people’s judgments, and over time, I carried the story that I wasn’t a good singer.

Years later, I was working as a coach, healer, and speaker, yet singing remained something I hadn’t fully reclaimed.

Then came Bali.

The Unexpected Words I Heard in Bali

Around 2021, I attended a Kundalini yoga retreat in Bali. Chanting was part of the experience, and I was singing along with everyone else.

One day, the teacher said something I wasn’t expecting.

“Your voice is so clear now. It is so good now.”

I felt seen by those words. They were so different from the judgment I had carried about my singing.

The next day, the teacher told another student that I sang very well. Then another retreat participant, Daniel, told me that, during the chanting class, I had been the only person singing on pitch.

Three unexpected comments about my voice in the space of a few days.

For years, I had believed I was the person who couldn’t quite get the notes right. Now, people were hearing something entirely different.

I don’t remember exactly how I felt in those moments. What stayed with me was the contrast between what they were hearing in my voice and what I had believed about it for years.

During the retreat, I told Daniel that I really wanted to start singing again.

I wasn’t necessarily saying I wanted to perform on stage. I wanted something much simpler: to sing like the little girl I had once been. To enjoy my own voice without worrying about how it sounded or what other people thought of it.

I wanted that freedom back.

Perhaps reclaiming my voice wasn’t about becoming a better singer. Perhaps it was about no longer needing someone else’s approval before I could enjoy using it.

Following the Trail of My Voice

About two weeks later, I saw Daniel again. The first thing he asked me was, “Have you sung today?”

I realised I hadn’t.

Through a series of synchronicities, I eventually booked a one-on-one voice activation session. I thought I was following a trail, allowing myself to discover what might be waiting for me.

What I encountered was essentially vocal training focused on pitch and tone.

And I absolutely hated it.

I had spent years carrying the story that my voice wasn’t good enough. Now I was back in a space where I felt I had to get something right before I could fully express myself.

The experience brought me to a point of genuine frustration. I was done with chasing pitch, tone, and melody as though meeting those standards were conditions I had to satisfy before I could claim my voice.

Not every step along our path looks the way we expect it to. Sometimes, an experience helps us recognise what we are no longer willing to pursue.

The Song That Came Through

This happened at a time when I was feeling vulnerable, processing childhood wounds around being seen and heard.

Then, almost unexpectedly, I found myself channelling a short song from the Pleiadian Star Mother. It felt like the comfort song I needed at the time.

What mattered most wasn’t how long the song was or whether it met any musical standard. It was that I was singing freely, without judging my voice.

Something that had once felt like a source of self-consciousness was becoming a way for me to express myself again.

Not long afterward, I had another realisation: I was meant to sing my light language.

Although I had been speaking light language since 2016, I hadn’t really sung it. This experience gave me the final nudge to begin singing my light language, too.

Choosing My Voice

Today, I sing and chant light language unapologetically.

That doesn’t mean the old story never returns. Sometimes, I still hear that familiar thought: You’re not on pitch. You sound weird.

My response is simple: “We are done with that.”

When I sing light language, conventional musical standards are no longer the measure by which I decide whether my expression is worthy. I care about resonance, purity, and frequency. Those who resonate with what comes through will resonate. That is enough.

And perhaps this is what Bali helped me begin to remember.

The words I heard in Bali were meaningful, but those people didn’t create my voice or give me permission to use it. Their words helped me remember something I had forgotten about myself.

The voice activation session helped me recognise what I no longer wanted to chase. And when my own song emerged, I experienced a kind of freedom I had been longing for since childhood.

I wasn’t trying to become the little girl who sang freely again. I was discovering that I could choose to sing freely now.

For me, reclaiming my voice has become part of reclaiming myself.

You Don’t Have to Wait to Be Chosen

I’ve come to understand something about being chosen.

It isn’t about being more special than anyone else, or about being one of the few people selected while everyone else is left out. I believe we are already chosen by the Divine. All of us.

We don’t have to wait for other people to choose us before we choose ourselves.

As children, we often express ourselves without first asking whether we are good enough. Then life happens. We hear the judgments, absorb the expectations, and begin allowing other people’s opinions to make decisions that were once ours to make.

For me, reclaiming my voice meant choosing to sing even when the old story told me not to. It meant allowing my light language to become a song, even when I wasn’t singing on pitch

And this goes beyond singing. It’s about letting myself be seen and heard for who I am, without needing to meet anybody else’s standards.

This is part of what CHOSEN, my private mentorship, is about. I hold space for those who are ready to reclaim their voice, become more visible, and share their gifts, message, and work with the world.

You don’t have to wait for someone else to choose your voice before you choose to use it.
